Accessing Ladner

Richard Ladner, current SIGACT chair and prover of many theorems including his namesake, won the 2008 CRA A. Nico Habermann Award not for theory but for his lifetime work on making computers accessible to the persons with disabilities. Ladner writes an article in CRA News on some of the challenges of persons with disabilities in education and computing, such as how do you allow a blind person to solve a CAPTCHA.

One of Ladner's projects builds an video messaging system designed so one can use it for communicating with sign language. Check out this video.

  2. Congratulations to Richard! Whenever I've talked to him about research he's doing, he's always been very enthused about this branch of his multi-faceted research agenda. I'm glad he's getting recognition for it.
