The results of a non-binding electronic vote showed 60% would prefer going independent from any society with most of the rest recommending a joint ACM/IEEE meeting. Going independent is far from free, it requires considerable volunteer hours every year to keep the conference going and only 17% of the respondents indicated a willingness to help. The steering committee is asking for volunteer commitments by May 8 and also potential donations to provide start-up funds for an independent symposium. There may be an organizational meeting preceding or following the conference, watch the home page for details.
