A...SCARECROW THEOREM FINALLY SHOWN TO BE CORRECT!
After the Scarecrow got his brains, this is what he actually said:

"There is a 3D surface such that the inverse stereographic projection of an isosceles triangle onto this 3-D surface will give projected curve lengths of any two sides of the triangle to be equal to 1. The 3-D surface can also be constructed such that the remaining side will have a projected curve length of 4. Thus, the projected sides will appear in such a way that...

...The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side."

Unfortunately, most of the Scarecrow's mathematical statement ended up on the cutting room floor. All that is left is the abridged and inaccurate version in the movie. Hollywood had no appreciation of the Scarecrow's mathematical genius.
Mikenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3722233.post-32147665549550875942022-06-24T12:10:05.935-05:002022-06-24T12:10:05.935-05:00But the Scarecrow was smart. The books were written by an old school, we're talking votes for Lincoln, Republican, who saw the Progressive Party as a mistake, full of idiot farmers who didn't understand that if the new farming techniques increased the yield for all the farmers then the market value of the produce goes down, and which was one of the founding complaints of the founding Progressive Farmers; "I'm getting cheated, I harvest three times as many carrots and I am making half as much!" Those farmers were leaving the Republican Party and join with the Unionists and the Socialists. Te metaphors go on, the Union lobbyists as represented by the Tinman, were seen as heartless unwilling to take the fiscal risk of a business failing but demanding a cut of the profits to "grease" the wheels of government (also read how the tinman slaughters the wolves), then come the socialists [today they'd be called communists] from Europe snarling over getting the rights that, frankly Americans already had, so they were dangerous, made a lot of noise but to the author they seemed to ultimately be cowards. Emerald City is about the switch to green back currency which we're not backed by gold in the same same way previous dollars were. You could no longer exchange dollars for an oz. of gold or silver (the slippers are silver slippers in the book),... anyway you can probably look up the rest.

So, the writers may have wanted to keep it clear that the Scarecrow was no smarter the "Wizard of Ounces" was just conning everyone.Dr. Tentakelliebehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05622862593159256723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3722233.post-48896886767813835732021-11-26T00:11:40.306-06:002021-11-26T00:11:40.306-06:00Anna, it's not trickery, it's politics, wi...Anna, it's not trickery, it's politics, wizard is a politician. I don't do math but I do Oz. The scarecrow (again, nobody cares) was supposed to make sense in his statement - that was a script error. The movie actually contains several minor errors, mostly related to items overlooked during final editing. Just like most people I barely care about this, if at all. Yes he was a bad wiz. Lying to everyone he had tech as advanced as the witches Dad but they wanted a leader so bad they and he couldn't say no. Dorothys supposed to be an orphaned city kid now living a farm girls life And the MGM 1939 movie is all her imaginings while unconscious. She's still the regressed though developing kid she was before she got bonked on the head. The earlier Oz movies put Dorothys origin as Oz Emerald city. She's, like Jesus, taken away from town to save her life. And on first meeting The Good Witch is the only one remembering that. And Dorothy now with regained insight into Oz, can return to Oz in emergencies. Uncle Henry is supposed to know it. But anyway Dot wakes up.
