Early or Late

As you can see from the timestamp of this post, I came into work quite early this morning. I had to drive and needed an early start (about 6 AM) to beat Chicago traffic and get a good parking spot. When I arrived I saw another professor in his office. I knew he wasn't the early type and likely spent the night here. When I said "Hello," he replied "Deadline."

Which one of us is keeping the crazier hours?

  1. I have a colleague at AT&T who comes in 5 am or thereabouts. I don't even have to tell him what I'm doing up that late: he takes one look at me and says 'Deadline?' :)

  2. I'll have to remember that one.

The next time anyone ever dare tells me "you look tired" (one of the least helpful comments in history), I'll simply reply with "deadline" to all of their inquiries.

  3. I'm a third year high school math teacher and a new father. I often do my catchup emailing for the day in between middle-of-the-night changings, grading, and planning. I've gotten several comments about 2am emails... 'deadline' sounds more professional than 'diaper'.

  4. Arguably a diaper is also a deadline, of a more urgent calling.

How about the much bigger controversy than 'early or late?':
I'd like to get an honest White Sox fan's opinion on:

'Did it hit the ground or didn't it?'
